The Deer

An update on the mama doe and her twin fawns. We see them often - about once a week. They especially like the bottom of our driveway - grassy area - lots of tender niblets. Sometimes we see just the mom, sometimes another doe is with her, and other times it is her with the twins. The fawns are much bigger now, and their spots are starting to fade. They are curious and watch us, but won't let us get too close. The kids are fascinated by her their big eyes and cute white tails.

Turkeys in our yard - we must have good food! Posted by Picasa

Wild turkeys are always coming in and out of our yard. We see another group of them all the time when we are driving to school. Posted by Picasa

This little guy showed up in our backyard. The kids and I rescued 3 turtles this summer off the road - after heavy rains. We are big turtle fans now! He is an Eastern Box Turtle. Posted by Picasa

We have lots of types of mushrooms - it is amazing. They grow wild all summer and fall long. Posted by Picasa

Weird, but pretty. Posted by Picasa

So many apples, so little time..... Posted by Picasa

These were our favorites. Someone called them "banana apples" - I think they are a golden delicious variety. Each kind of apple had its own unique taste. Posted by Picasa

The Apple Orchard

This weekend we drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had a picnic in a park and the kids rode bikes around the lot. Then we drove on and picked two huge bags of apples at the apple orchard. We had never tasted so many different kinds of apples! Our favorites were the reddish green stamen apples and a yellow apple nicknamed the banana apple. Very different kinds of sweet and tart. The weather was in the 70's and sunny. Dave and I looked around at the mountains, the fall trees turning colors, and then at each other--- I can't believe we live here!! It is gorgeous! I promise, I'll post pictures soon!
