It's Fall!

Wow - we are just enjoying the beautiful weather here. All of September has been a high of around 75 degrees - just wonderful. It seems that the rain has stopped for awhile, too. This morning it was 48 degrees - a little chilly - but we liked it. I think in about a week we will be in full color here. It has just really started to change this past week. Gabby has gone on a field trip already for school. They went to an apple orchard and picked apples. Timmy's class attempted a field trip today to see an 1800's reenactment. However, the field where the event was, had yellow jacket nests in the ground and 16 kids got stung. They all came back early! Our school seems to do a lot of field trips. There are a lot of disadvantaged kids there, so we try to broaden their horizons some.

Linville Falls - just 30 minutes north of us. Very touristy spot for a hike and several views of the falls. This is Dave's b&w artsy shot. Posted by Picasa

School

Yes, we have started back to school - for about 2 weeks now. We are still not in a routine yet. We've had teacher workdays already, so not quite on a schedule. The kids are happy and sad. Sad to get up so early in the morning, but glad to be with friends and busy learning new things. Or wait, maybe that was me!! Gabby told Timmy after the first day of school, "Timmy, you were right! First grade is hard!!"

My work is going fine. Off to a busy year. Been 'advocating' for my more severe kids and getting them settled into their classrooms. Training some of the assistants who work with them. Speech and language screened all the Kindergarteners (80 of them!) and still finishing preschoolers. Fun, but tiring. Now I can get to my real job, and start working with my 50 other kiddos on my caseload at school!

RAIN!!

Wow, have we had the rain!! The week before Labor Day it rained 2 inches. On that weekend, it rained 5 more! It rains almost daily here - usually just some showers here and there. But we've had some real downpours, too. Very humid, lots of fog and haze during the late summer, and still now. We never really had fog in Dallas, so the kids think that it's cool when we drive into it in the mornings going to school.

September

Well, it is September here - and fall is already starting!! Leaves are starting to change colors some and falling to the ground. The kids can't wait to rake a bunch of leaves together - and then JUMP into it. Hard to believe, but they never had a change to do it in Texas. Too wimpy of trees and they drop later in the year. I'll post some pictures soon.
